We worked with accredited conservation architect Frederick Gibson of ST Walker & Duckham to repair the mansion's historic laundry building, housed in the northeast pavillion of the outer courtyard and now used as the education centre. The contract was tendered principally as a roofing project, to replace the poorly detailed lead gutters with terne coated stainless steel and provide a new slate roof. However, as is typically the case, opening up revealed rather more work than originally anticipated; It is in the modest masonry repairs that the scope has broadened, requiring a greater degree of dismantling of both the decorative stone cornice and the blocking course to allow for the replacement of iron cramps with stainless steel and introducing improved stability.
