Cbs are carrying out essential roof repairs to this pretty yet unassuming parish church of C12 and C14 origins.
The church was restored around 1854 with what appear to be significant changes taking place within the nave roof structure. Thankfully however, the chancel roof survived largely untouched, conserving some fine C14 roof carpentry. The pyramidal roof structure of the C12 tower has faired less well with some significant repairs required throughout the primary members.
The handmade staffordshire blue roof tiles are being stripped and reinstated over a repaired and newly insulated roof structure encompassing new cast iron rainwater goods discharging into newly laid underground drainage.
The roughly coursed gritstone rubble is being repointed where required using a hot mixed lime mortar and poorly detailed masonry to the porch is being replaced with newly carved copings and finial cross.
Other works include new decorative oak bargeboards, an oak chancel apex cross, decoration to the interior and an upgraded lighting arrangement.
