Occasionally, its not just the building that appeals, but also the location.
This delightful building is set within the romantic remains of a landscaped glen and was probably no more than a winter away from complete collapse.
In taking action when they did, the owners, in partnership with Natural England and conservation architect Mike Garner have saved what must be an exceedingly rare example of eighteenth century eccentricity.
In brief, we numbered and subsequently dismantled the front elevation of the building, replacing masonry where absolutely necessary whilst repairing and conserving the remainder.
The cold bath, which is fed from a nearby stream was pumped clear whilst repairs were made to the stone access steps. The lime plaster was conserved and replaced where necessary and new window grills and an oak door were made to match the originals.
A new stone paved roof was installed and retaining and parapet walls rebuilt and drainage installed.
The bath is full once again with its ice cold, crystal clear waters, awaiting those bold enough to partake!
